So, having calculated drift, basically there are two problems: 1. the map is shifted in a couple of pieces: * japan tried to collide with korea * the americas are shifted one direction * the lakes inside north america are shifted in a slightly different direction * most islands near the south pole seem to be shifted * australia and pacific islands seem to be shifted in another direction * lakes inside africa are shifted in a direction * some "lakes" in africa are mostly phantoms * the caspian and aral seas are shifted as a group (the aral sea is also too big) We're working on retouching the map to address most of the above. With the replacement, we will only need to correct a smaller number of points. ===== 2. everything else * various cities are totally misplaced - caracas, venezuela is in Italy - baltimore is in the deep south - acre, (western) brazil is in the middle of a run of cities in central brazil - aragaju, (eastern, coastal) brazil is in the same run - montserrat an island in the gulf of mexico is in the pacific ocean - augusta, maine (near canada) is just north of florida - sana, yemen is in oman (nearly at sanala) ------- * various time zones are confused - victoria seychelles has the time zone for melbourne, victoria, australia - phoenix islands (pacific) have the time zone for phoenix, arizona ------- * some cities need to be added / removed to make the map sane - add anchorage, alaska to fix alaska - remove guam, usa - add Longyearbyen, Svalbard to fix north of the nordic countries - remove saipan, n mariana islands * some cities could be added to help the map: - la paz, mexico ------- * the time zone stripes are generally in the wrong place - chihuahua and mexico city are in the same stripe but different time zones - jordan and cairo are in the same time zone but different stripes - sudan is in the same stripe as cairo but a different time zone - time zone stripes for russia near alaska and alaska near russia are wrong ------- there are a couple of cities/countries whose names are probably wrong, but that's really a localization issue and i don't want to spend the time explaining any of that to people.
