MAN and WOMAN in the BIBLE

        selected verses from the New American Standard Bible

        IN THE BEGINNING

        In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Gen. 1:1)

        Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth." And God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him... (Gen. 1:26- 27a)

        Then the Lord God said, "It is not good for the man to be alone; I will make him a helper suitable for him." (Gen. 2:18)

        So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and he slept; then He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh at that place. And the Lord God fashioned into a woman the rib which He had taken from the man, and brought her to the man. And the man said,

        "This is now bone of my bones,
        And flesh of my flesh;
        She shall be called WOMAN
        Because she was taken out of MAN."

        For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave to his wife; and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed. (Gen. 2:21-25)

        And God blessed them; and God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky, and over every living thing that moves on the earth." (Gen. 1:28)

        And God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good. (Gen. 1:31a)
